Being confident=/=having to assert your gender at every turn. A good offense is not the best defense. Applied to this situation, no, it has nothing to do with “hiding” your gender. It has to do with not making other people uncomfortable. Okay, so it isn’t kosher to have a member of the opposite gender hit on you if it makes you uncomfortable. Why are you vehemently defending a position where it is a-OK to post sexually provocative pictures of yourself in a forum where there are usually two polarized reactions (being overwhelmed with sexual harassment and being overwhelmed with negative responses: ie, “UGH STFU GAMER GURL” or what have you) either of which are negative? What is it that you aren’t understanding here? That it simply isn’t okay for young girls, many of whom are under the legal age, to post sexually provocative pictures of themselves? Or perhaps you’re of the stance that whatever the people (in this case, young girls and women) desire should be the standard? It isn’t okay for anyone to have an erroneous idea about life which may eventually get them into trouble. Do you know what this idea creates? Young idealists who think that it’s perfectly okay to act sexually precocious and have no idea of the consequences which may ensue.
It isn’t okay. Not in any way. Do you know what you are advocating, at all? Or do you think, simply because they’re women girls and they have rights, that anything they do should be advocated? Are you that insipid? Are you that knee-jerk and blatantly stupid? I honestly don’t think you should dabble in debate before learning a little bit more about how life works. Try living on the street for a few months. Maybe then you’ll get out of your white-bread, pseudo-intellectual existence and perhaps gain a few insights about what actually happens when a woman does sexually provocative things in a public forum. It’s the same thing that happens when a man does it, honestly.
Whether it’s misogynistic or not, you are not living in a utopia, where everything goes according to plan. Neither are they. Therefore, it simply is stupid (which is what “anti-girl-gamer”s -whatever the fuck they call themselves, I don’t actually give that much of a fuck- have been trying to tell you, but you’ve been too pigheaded to recognize) and unenlightened to hold to a standard which does not currently exist, whether you want it to, or not.
Tl;dr, girls who act sexually provocative around the wrong people get raped. Fact. No legislation is going to change this. No amount of Slutwalks are going to change this. There are sick people out there who get kicks out of raping girls.

I’m a girl. I’m a gamer. I work for a video game store. Anyone who has an issue with that, can blow me like a nintendo cartridge. Don’t get mad at me (or any other gamer girl) simply because you have poor hand eye coordination, and also are a proponent of male chauvanism and misogyny. I don’t play video games to be “better than” other girls or to “fit in” with the guys. I am a female who happens to like amazing graphics and kick ass gameplay.
And you feel the need to assert your femininity why? It’s great that you play games. I do, too. The point of this entire conversation, or at least what I get out of it, is that there is no need to be so aggressive about it. Great. You’re a girl. Gaming simply isn’t the forum to whore yourself out on.
Yes, I am a feminist. Yes, I think the word whore applies equally to both genders, as gender equality is what feminism is about. Please get that through your thick skull. Equality doesn’t mean that you should run around with an attitude equivalent to “Yes, I’m a girl, I was born with a set of female sex organs, aren’t you proud of me for standing up for my rights?” Because, no, honey, no one is proud of you for having your vagina be the first thing that comes up in a conversation. And when you keep mentioning the fact that you are a female, guess what? You are bringing your vagina up. You are the one creating a gap between the genders. You are the one creating a negative image of gamers.
Gamers are male AND female. Girl gamers are young girls and women who are unaware that gender equality in the gaming forum would be easier to achieve if they didn’t post fucking pictures of themselves in provocative poses with controllers. Yes. There are female gamers. No, you don’t have to be one of the guys to be a female gamer. You simply have to play the game.
No, I’m not a misogynist; it’s not because I’m female. There are plenty of women with misogynistic worldviews. I believe that if we’re to be truly equal, gender shouldn’t be something that is an arguing point in a thing that makes gender irrelevant: ie, ANONYMOUS gaming.
